Hydrogen sulphide is produced largely due to the action of sulphate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in anoxic (or oxygen-depleted) conditions. A number of chemicals can be dosed to disrupt the sulphide cycle and prevent the conversion of dissolved sulphide to H2S.
