Calcined Products - SemidolimeTM and Building Materials
SemidolimeTM has been demonstrated to act as a binder in building products with a number of applications and opportunities. Calix is in advanced discussions with third parties regarding these opportunities, in particular the application of SemidolimeTM into building blocks, panels and roof tiles. Significant environmentally sustainable attributes for these products include:
- improved fire resistant properties;
- improved acoustic insulation;
- high thermal insulation;
- highly water resistant;
- binds low cost and waste fillers; and
- ability to resist mould and mildew.
SemidolimeTM has market specific applications for each product:
Building blocks – SemidolimeTM can be used in building blocks and provide the opportunity to use filler materials such as bauxite tailings, rice husks and sands that are not normally found in traditional concrete blocks;
Building panels - SemidolimeTM can be used to make (non-structural) panels for both interior and exterior use. SemidolimeTM may replace Gypsum in similar plasterboard products. Calix is also pursuing the manufacture of a SemidolimeTM based product with superior properties to those of Magnesium Oxide Board, which is now accepted in the US and is also extensively used in China and Taiwan. Based upon technical research performed by Calix, the SemidolimeTM panels have a high thermal resistance for energy efficiency, resist mould, be non-toxic and weatherproof; and
Roof tiles - SemidolimeTM will be trialled as a substitute for cement and allows the utilisation of other fillers that cannot be used with cement. This has the potential to provide roof tiles with a higher thermal insulation value. Concrete roof tiles typically contain 80% fillers.
