CalixoTM is our brand for highly activate oxides. This includes a new material, SemidolimeTM, exclusively produced by Catalytic Flash Calcination of dolomite at medium temperatures. The chemical composition of the surface makes the material a versatile binder. It is the new products enabled by Flash Calcination that provides the early focus to Calix, in particular, the proprietary material produced from catalytic flash calcination of the dolomite minerals Semidolime™ which provides the greatest opportunity. The diversity of applications available to SemidolimeTM mirrors those of lime itself and in many of these markets, Semidolime™ will outperform lime on a cost/benefit basis. SemidolimeTMThe benefits, including environmental benefits of Semidolime™ products accrue from one or more of the following generic physical, chemical and biochemical properties of SemidolimeTM. SemidolimeTM is:
These beneficial properties are a feature of a very high surface area on the Catalytic Flash Calcined material. Conventional manufacturing processes given an unreactive material with few desirable properties. Environmental ProductsCalix has developed a suite of environmentally friendly products from SemidolimeTM
A unique feature of these products is that their manufacturing cost is comparable to, or lower than competitive products on the market that have large carbon footprints and other environmentally negative properties. As an example, a preliminary data sheet on CalixoTM demonstrates the environmental benefits that can be obtained from this product. Quick Release FertilizerSince the advent of acid phosphate and more concentrated phosphatic fertilizers such as super phosphates, the growth in area of salt and acid agricultural land on a world-wide basis has been at best astronomical. The Calix technology takes advantage of the fact that the addition of partially calcined dolomite to any type of crops or pasture affected by acid or salt obtained from the application of phosphate fertilizers will neutralise the acid and salt content of the soil. Further, the fertilizing dolomitic material when introduced to the aqueous system of the soil supplies Magnesium as a plant food in three concentrated and available forms of Magnesium Phosphate, Carbonate and Bicarbonate. This is because the magnesium hydroxide and magnesia oxide are inactive and insoluble in dry conditions and are readily and immediately transformed into soluble magnesium carbon through reaction with the Carbon Dioxide of the soil. The calcined dolomitic materials should be spread dry on the surface of the pasture or soil at any rate capable of bringing about the chemical reaction of rapid released fertilisers as described here. Because of the preferential reaction of the magnesium with the phosphoric acid the calcium carbonate contained within the dolomitic material shall remain in its original condition as a concentrated and available form of calcium which will be readily and rapidly assimilated as a food by the plant. |
