Calix is an emerging company (established in 2005) that acquired the rights to intellectual property for a minerals processing technology, called Flash Calcination. The application for which the technology has been developed is the calcining of lime, dolomite or magnesite (metal carbonate minerals) to their respective oxides, such as lime, dolime and magnesia. There are other minerals processing applications that have been identified. Calcined materials have many well established markets and the generic competitive advantage of the Calix Calcination is the lower capital cost for a plant, the unique reactivity of the product.

The process also allowed the production of new materials, such as Semidolime™ which can be used as a new controlled release fertiliser or more importantly as the basis for new building materials and for carbon capture.

Calix Limited is committed to pursuing opportunities in two markets: the production of new calcined products for the use in mature markets such as cement, fertilizers and building products; and secondly in the emerging markets for carbon capture to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels. All our processes have either zero C0₂ emissions or significantly reduced emissions.
